While internet adoption in the United States is equal amongst both genders, online usage increases among demographic groups with higher levels of education and income. Your love life in the United States is also one of the highest-ranked countries in terms of internet freedom, ranking fourth in the Freedom House Index of 2017 with 21 points.

Especially on the matter of relationships, there are more people on the dating sites than in Parks, coffee shops and restaurants in our growing cities today.

In my own experience, I found that I spend the majority of my day on my computer, job-related and hours surfing social media, exciting and addicting. I found so much fulfilment logging on and just chatting with folks and my social life outside of the website was almost non-existent. My speech pattern was changing, I got weary when I was out, dying to go back to my comfort zone, connecting with social media.

An awareness of what social media is doing to our relationships is a start, take the time to schedule time away from social media so that we can stay connected with the persons in our lives.

Online friendships, while certainly valuable in many ways, cannot provide us with opportunities for deep and lasting emotional closeness. To accept and seek out your online friends, rekindle lost connections and revisit childhood friendships, as long as it is not at the expense of nurturing and deepening your real-life relationships.
