Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara (Celebrating Marriages that Last)

Married: September 14, 1954, how do you know them: As comedy duo Stiller and Meara, the Brooklynites were regulars on The Ed Sullivan Show throughout the 1960s and ’70s. Afterward, he starred in Seinfeld and The King of Queens, while she took roles in Archie Bunker’s Place and Sex and the City. They’re parents to actors Amy and Ben Stiller.

Longest celebrity couple..They met in the early ’50s, Meara, a struggling actress, met with an agent, and came out of his office crying. Stiller, sitting in the waiting room for the next interview, discovered the agent had been hitting on her, and took Meara for a cup of coffee to comfort her. This exchange sealed the deal: STILLER: Can I pick up the check? MEARA: Forget the check. Pick up some silverware, stick it in your pocket, and let’s get the hell out of here.

60 years to date these guys were still together, so we were interested in finding the secret to their success in an environment where relationships really are not doing so well. On May 23, 2015 Anne Meara passed away, it was a sad Jerry Stiller who said, “I miss her, she was my best friend”.

“It didn’t matter what we were going through, we could laugh about it, she had a sense of humour that was second to none”. When he said it, you knew he meant every word of it. I walked away with the information and decided that I needed to lighten up, all is vanity and vexation of spirit, the wisest man in the world said it.
